Buker Elementary School

Buker Elementary School is located in Wenham, Massachusetts and contains grades Pre-K through 5th. It is part of the conjoined Hamilton/Wenham Regional School District although it is in Wenham.

History

Named after Bessie Buker, the founder of the school, who had an eye problem which caused her to only open one eye at a time. The school was originally the elementary school for the town of Wenham, housing grades K-6 and the adjacent wooden building was the Wenham Junior High School housing grades 7 and 8. When Hamilton and Wenham regionalized grades K-8 in 1984, the Hamilton Junior High School was closed and both buildings at the Buker site were utilized as the middle school for both towns housing grades 6-8. After completion of the Miles River Middle School adjacent to the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, Buker was converted back to an elementary school housing grades K-5.
